Is Church
membership important?
Yes, but
it is secondary to trusting in Jesus. Membership identifies
that a person has a relationship with Jesus and that
he/she is willing to go public with that faith through
believer’s baptism. Membership helps the church leadership
identify those they can count on to lead and care for
others.
Membership
identifies that a person is willing to support this
ministry with his time, talents and treasure and to
be held accountable to the biblical values expressed
at First Baptist Church.
How do
I become a member?
As the Spirit
of God leads you, we invite you to become a member of
the First Baptist Church family. Once you have trusted
in Jesus as your Lord, we invite you to join our church
in one of the following ways:
• If you’re a new believer in Christ, in obedience to
the teachings of Jesus, we ask that you experience believer’s
baptism. This is an outward symbol (immersion in water)
of the inward change you have experienced.
• As a believer
in Christ, if you have already experienced believer’s
baptism, we invite you to become a member by a transfer
of membership from your previous church.
• As a believer
in Christ, if your previous church membership records
are unknown or unavailable, we invite you to become
a member by informing us of your prior membership. If
you would like to join the First Baptist Church family,
you’re invited to let us know of this decision during
our “Song of Commitment” at the close of the worship
service, or by calling the church office (628-5693).
